Townsville Brothers F.C. make North Queensland Football History

This weekend sees Townsville Brothers Football Club rewrite the record books, as they take on Mackay Whitsunday Magpies Crusaders United in the 7^th round of the Football Federation Australia (FFA) Cup.

Round 6 saw Brothers play host to Leichhardt FC in front of an 800 strong home crowd. With the support shown by the local football community Brothers were spurred on to a very convincing 7 – 0 victory.

This win saw history being made as no other North Queensland Football team has made it to Round 7. Neither National Premier League (NPL) teams the Northern Fury or NQ united were able to get past their local rivals Cairns FC.

Already surpassing expectations, Brothers now come up against NPL team Mackay Whitsunday Magpies Crusaders United. Fortunately, the draw has favored the Townsville team as they look to host the Crusaders at home Saturday 8^th June at 7pm, Hi Vista Park.

Coming off the back of a strong win against Rockhampton Bluebirds, the Crusaders will be a force to be reckoned with this Saturday. Whoever wins this game will not only progress through to Round 8 but might come up against an A League opponent depending on the draw.

EMU Sportswear NQ Head Sales Rep, Sean Howe, has been an instrumental part in Brothers Cup run so far. Having played in Round 3 and 4 versus Wulguru United FC and Mundingburra Olympic FC respectively, Sean was unfortunately hit by injury and hasn’t taken the field since.

‘I’ve worked at EMU Sportswear and played football for Brothers for the last 9 years, so I’ve seen the highs and lows of Football in North Queensland. It’s always great to get behind the club and have the community supporting us.’ Said Sean.
